Embracing Inclusion: Our Wheelchair Basketball Experience
In honor of JDAIM, although a few days late, we had the incredible opportunity to host Wheelchair Basketball Canada for our students in grades 1-8. This event allowed our students to step into the shoes of those who navigate life in a wheelchair, fostering empathy and understanding.
Throughout the day, students learned the fundamentals of using a wheelchair and practiced essential mobility drills. They immersed themselves in the rules of the game and then hit the court for a game of wheelchair basketball.
This hands-on experience opened the eyes of many, reminding us all of the importance of health and the challenges some face daily. Many left the event with a renewed sense of appreciation for our abilities and a deeper admiration for those who live with mobility challenges. It was a day filled with learning, laughter, and invaluable insights into the power of inclusion.
We are grateful for this opportunity and thank Wheelchair Basketball Canada for helping us celebrate diversity and foster understanding within our community!
